Match report Thanks to Bill Marshall's telephone efforts and skipper Colin Warne's late recce of the colt's training session, Radlett were at least able to field 11 players. However, a team including 5 youngsters was always going to struggle against a team of 11 competent adult cricketers in this 40 overs a side match.

Fortunately for the tea ladies, Radlett lost the toss and Hampstead batted. All was well for the first third of the allotted overs, with Hampstead being resticted to around three an over. However, with the dismissal of the openers at 57 in the 16th over and 70 in the 21st over all hell let loose! 10 overs later the score stood at 182, as the batsmen tucked in to some tasty fare. Fortunately, the Hampstead captain applied a generous interpretation of the new ECB child protection policy and retired his two hitters on 51 and 74, allowing the run rate to decellerate to a more usual pace. Nevertheless, a total of 229 was going to demand an exceptional response.

A steady fall of wickets then ensued, including two innings of completely opposite types. Coming in at the first wicket down, following a slow start, Duncan Fraser hammered 22 off 8 deliveries before hitting wildly across a straight one. As wickets continued to tumble, Mike Dexter held stoically on at the other end, to finish with the remarkable feat of carrying his bat for 27 not out in a 40 overs match! The stuff of legends! Pick of the youngsters was late call up Bhavin Kakkad with two tidy spells of pace bowling.
