Match report Radlett opened their ECB Cockspur Cup campaign with a clash at home against local Home Counties league rivals Potters Bar. Invited to bat, openers Nick Fielden and Graham Dill set the tone from the outset with aggressive running between the wickets and severe punishment of loose deliveries. From these foundations, and despite Graham falling once again in the 30s, Matt Evans and Haydn Smith combined to build a match winning total of 247. Haydn hammered the spinners to all parts in a better than run a ball innings of 78, and Matt, seeing the over through for a magnificent undefeated 97, was narrowly short of a well deserved hundred.

In extremely testing conditions for bowlers and fielders alike, Radlett were somewhat subdued in the field, though Stuart Browne was his usual metronomic self in bowling his allocation through for a miserly 22 runs, but it was Ian Edwards and Graham Dill who took the plaudits with the ball, demonstrating supreme whole heartedness in bowling their spells in to a howling northerly gale without complaint and with skill and accuracy. Backing up their quality batting performances, Evans and Smith snared a couple of victims apiece, and whilst the 22 run margin appears somewhat narrow, it was in fact a reasonably comfortable victory.

We will be welcoming our friends from Winchmore Hill CC to Radlett for the third round of the ECB Cockspur Cup on May 22nd, in anticipation of an exciting high quality match.
