Match report Radlett entertained St Margaretsbury on Saturday hoping a win would push them further up the table. With skipper Haydn Smith unavailable due to a nasty injury sustained the week before, hopes were high of winning a toss.

The coin duly turned its nose up again at Radlett but it made no difference as St Margaretsbury decided to bat. Early pressure from Stuart Browne and Shane Burger yielded no returns, both beating the bat regularly. It was left to David Hegarty to take the opening wicket after 60 runs had been scored. Hegarty then bowled probably his best spell for the club, 16 overs for 29, and two wickets, making effective use of variety in both flight and pace. Simon Jackson was also on song bowling exceptional lines of attack and showing superb control. Radlett recovered from a sleepy start to restrict St Margeretsbury to 205 runs in their 60 overs. Most notable was that the last 20 overs yielded only 70 runs; a great effort from bowlers and fielders alike.

In reply, openers Nick Hampton and Shane Burger took control. Burger made a tidy 53 before a loose shot cost him the chance to make a hundred. The top 5 batters all fell to untidy shots and at 110-5 the game was on a knife-edge. Stand in skipper Graham Dill and ex captain Nick Fielden set about repairing the damage. They did so carefully but punished the bad ball. Fielden was rock solid for his 37 not out and Dill also remained unbeaten on 61 as the pair put on 95 runs to win the match with 3 overs to spare. A fine partnership rewarded with 25 points.

It was a pleasing win and keeps the top of the table interesting as the league season draws to its conclusion. Radlett hope to maintain their challenge against second place Sawbridgeworth on Saturday.
