Match report This was a close game that proved the old adage;'catches win matches.'
SV bowled and fielded very tightly with Ishaan Patel particularly effective with 2-9. A solid base was set for a reasonable total by Rhys who calmly accumulated 30 but the expected acceleration from Rohan,Joe and Harry M never quite materialised as Rohan and Joe were both nipped out after making a start.With the quality of batting at our disposal,even against a keen attack,I thought we were 10-15 runs short.
Joe seized the initiative bowling the SV opener with the first ball of their innings and then getting the number 3 LBW with the last ball of the first over.With Harry Mistry generating good pace and bounce from the other end the SV batsmen Ishaan and Ashil did well to withstand the onslaught and then build what turned out to be the match winning partnership with both retiring.Without taking away from their excellent innings,Radlett dropped each of them twice.When they retired the rest of the SV batting collapsed in a heap with the next three batsmen getting ducks to cause some nerves in the away camp.We never had quite enough runs on the board however and again 19 extras was at least 10 too many.The SV number 8 clipped a nice 4 and that was that-defeat with 1 over to go.
This was an improved performance after the nightmare showing away but if anything the match was lost in the field with too many extras,singles conceded,catches dropped,overthrows and run out chances missed.In a word discipline. SV won scoring less runs off the bat than we did but they fielded better and bowled less loose deliveries. That is a statistic we need to learn from. Finally, if a good batsman gives you a chance you need to take it..........
